A BIT ABOUT CAMP:

Groundlings Summer Day Camp became a summer tradition at Los Altos United Methodist Church in July of 2014.  In 2017 we shared this tradition with St. Gregory's Episcopal Church.  The camp is supported and led by church staff and volunteers ranging in age from 9th grade - retired adults.  The camp motto is "We live grounded in God's love and "filled with Joy and the Holy Spirit."-Acts 13:52. Camp is from 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. daily, with an option for extended care (see below). Groundlings is specifically designed for children entering K- 5th grade with the addition of a special middle school program for children entering 6th - 8th grade. Each day offers fun (and sometimes messy) camp games and activities, Bible learning time, music and/or art, and group building. One of Groundlings greatest strengths is its ability to create a focus around relationship building. Each child is a part of a "family" throughout a week, and participates in the various parts of camp with the same children and leaders each day. We love seeing the children make friends, and grow in their faith together.

Our hope is that every Groundling camper will leave us after a week or more of camp with a sense of community, belonging, and an understanding of their unique ability to impact our world.

ABOUT THE LEADERS:

Groundlings is a ministry for the leaders of camp just as much as it is for the campers. The Groundlings adult and youth volunteers (Counselors) and Interns are in a process of being discipled just as they are helping to build disciples at camp. It's a wonderful opportunity for high school underclassman to gain leadership experience while working alongside a few of the most responsible young adult leaders in the church. We make it a point to include Interns in camp planning and design, and encourage them to be strong leaders in various parts of the camp-- recreation, sign-in, camp family leaders, afternoon activity leaders, etc. Each year, we work to improve what we are able to offer in leadership training for these wonderful youth and young adults.

MIDDLE SCHOOL CREW (ENTERING 6-8TH GRADES)

This summer, in Middle School Crew (MSC), our middle school campers will have fun in a special program designed just for them!  The MSC will have fun by participating as a camper throughout the day AND learn valuable skills by choosing 1-2 areas of speciality each week (recreation, crafts, performing arts, or The Grunion Gazette) in which they will be given special leadership responsibility and ownership of their specialty.  Each week will also include an off site service project for MSC.
