Long Beach Camerata Singers Honor Memory of Founder Frank Allen
The late Frank Allen, a founding member of Los Altos United Methodist Church, will be remembered at a Singers’ Choice concert performed by the Long Beach Camerata Singers on November 10 at the Long Beach City College Auditorium at 5:30 p.m. The 80-member professional chorus opens the 2013-14 season at the Long Beach City College Auditorium. It's the group's first performance there in more than 40 years. The singers selected the repertoire, including music by Beethoven, Brahms, Rachmaninoff, Verdi, Copland and Mendelssohn. They've also included arrangements of African-American songs, among others.
Frank Allen founded this vocal arts ensemble in 1966 on the City College campus. He developed it into a professional, Long Beach-based chorus, and today it is directed by Dr. Robert Istad, a Long Beach resident and Director of Choral Studies at CSU Fullerton.
Tickets are $40 for preferred seats; $30 for general. The Long Beach City College Auditorium Box Office opens an hour before the performance. Those who order tickets in advance by telephone, (562) 522-1045, can receive a 20 percent discount. Identify yourself as a member of Los Altos United Methodist Church.
Allen was a Los Altos UMC founding member, along with his wife, Betty. He was also past Choir Director, the founder of Long Beach Camerata Singers, and the founder of the Long Beach Bach Festival.
